fun in the sun

so aiden and i spent the day up the mountain with the in-laws. they are finishing up packing up... there is a contract on the house! i can't believe that there is a good chance that the pool/hot tub are going to be gone soon!

the sun really did a number on all of us! aiden took a great nap and then when we got home - we got ready for bed and read a few books and then he got right into bed.. he didn't want to be rocked at all! my little man was tired!  i'm exhausted too - i really need to get into bed myself! (instead - i'm watching the harry potter marathon on ABC Family)

Aiden's 1st movie with Mommy!

i took aiden to his first movie with me today (he's already gone to the movies with his grammy)

we went to see Brave - so cute! and he did really good! he was standing and looking around until the movie started and then he sat on my lap - and there he stayed for most of the movie. he did eventually stand up and watched between 2 chairs.  he really didn't take his eyes off the screen.  he drank his fruit punch and ate some M&M's - wanted nothing to do with the popcorn - so i ate that :)

it was a nice outing with my little man! i just wish adam was home to enjoy it with us.... soon!!

Hate when I don't know what to do

Aiden is in bed crying.

I try to help calm and sooth him when I can - and he was calm when I put him to bed (a few quiet whimpers). He keeps crying and saying mommy - but I haven't gone in because it's calming down and more time is passing between the crying.

Why is he upset?
He wants M&M's and doesn't want to go to bed.

I give him M&M's when he uses the potty. He used the potty and I went to get his 4 M&M's and he got upset because he wanted to get them. (Mr. Independent!) I tried to give them to him and he wouldn't take them. I told him to take them or I was eating them. He didn't take them. I said lets get ready for bed and he refused to come out of the bathroom. I ate his M&M's - picked him up and carried him into the bedroom to get ready for bed. He cried - I got him dressed - he cried - I read him 2 stories - he started to calm down so I read him another story of his choosing. He said he wanted M&M and we talked about why he gets M&M's (for going potty - not for crying). We go to get his M&M's and he again refuses to take them from my hand. I put them away - take him back into the bedroom and calm him down and rock him and then put him to bed.

i'm not exactly sure what is going on with aiden, but it seems that he is now scared of night time.  all i have to do is mention "night night" and he's all like "no night night" over and over.  and then we get to his room and he fights me putting on his pj's (where he used to help me) and we rock through his one song where he used to get down and climb into bed before the song was over - he now spends the time glancing up at the video monitor and looking worried.  when i tell him it's time to get in bed he shakes his  head no and refuses to get out of my arms. so we rock a little more.

tonight went a little smoother - i showed him what the video monitor was for and what it did.  he still glanced up at it a few times as we rocked, but i just kept explaining that it was for mommy to check on him when he was sleeping and he stayed calm.  and he went into bed much better - no crying!

so, i hope we have worked through this

Adventures in potty training

We moved Aiden over to pull-ups last week and he's been doing pretty good. We spent the morning naked and he did really well. He ran to the bathroom when he knew he needed to go and he even did #2 twice!

This afternoon wasn't as great. We weren't at home so he had on a Pull-up and shorts so he would just go in his Pull-up but he did go in his potty the 2 times I took him.

Maybe I'll have him potty trained by the time Adam comes home!

OT

so aiden is getting occupational therapy - his grip measured at 18 months and he also needs some help with sensory issues.  he has had 2 therapy sessions and it's going well. the first session last week I actually took him to and sat in on. they worked on digging small objects out play-doh and cutting with scissors and working with puzzles.

we haven't delved into the sensory issues yet, but he'll get it in the next couple weeks!

counting

my little boy can count to 10!!

well, he starts with 2 and skips 8 - but he's doing it! and i can't believe he is doing it. we were reading his book Five Little Ladybugs and at the end the last 2 pages have a bunch of ladybugs on it and he points at them and counts - his educator mommy is just boasting!!

Happy Easter

Well we colored Easter Eggs yesterday and Aiden LOVED it! He started off wanting to crack open the egg and I had to stop him.  He really liked putting the eggs into the cups and didn't have much patients for waiting to let the color get on the eggs.  It got pretty messy, so glad we did it outside! 

Careful

Aiden enjoyed hunting for his eggs this morning - he did really well - only needed a little bit of help!  I think the part he liked best though, was getting to eat candy for breakfast :)  he loved all his gifts from the Easter Bunny - all in all he had a good Easter!

Adventures in the big boy bed!

Well last weekend I took the side off of Aiden's crib and things have been going well. He seems to really like his new set up - I even let him pick out his own new bedding (Toy Story) and when he sees it he says "yee ha" (so cute) We rock through our one song and he gets out of my lap and climbs right into his bed - such a big boy!

Yesterday he kept playing instead of taking a nap and he was leaning up on his new safety bar and he totally flipped his mattress off his bed. I think he was more shocked than anything - I just happened to be watching in the monitor - it scared me!

He hadn't actually tried to get out of his bed when he was awake - until this morning. I woke up to the sound of him trying to turn his door knob (he doesn't know how to open the door yet) and then him knocking. It made me chuckle. He was pretty excited when I opened the door.

I'm happy that things have been going pretty well with this transition. He's getting so big!

well - tomorrow night i am taking the side off of aiden's bed and adding the safety side and giving aiden his big boy bed! i can't believe it!!

anybody have any last minute tips for me??

2 year check-up (and other odds and ends)

as the nurse said - today is aiden's last baby check... my little man is growing up!

he weighed 29 lbs 1 oz (69%)

he is 34.25" tall (45%)

he had to get one shot.... HepA - as soon as the nurse put her gloves on he got upset... but he did okay - he cried - when it was all over he clapped his hands and said "yay" as he cried... I gave him his sippy cup with milk and he wanted it but still cried... eventually he calmed down. the rest of the visit was pretty uneventful. 

and in other news....

this weekend i will be taking the side off of aiden's crib! he will officially be in a big boy bed!! i can't believe it...

oh - the tail end of last week i got sick.... strep! i forgot how horrible that disease is! i was miserable!! i had some great friends help me out with aiden and the great grandparents... i need adam home!

aiden is able to actually talk on the phone now without hanging up on people AND actually holds a teensy bit of a conversation. it's cute :)

aiden plays with a purpose and he uses his imagination... i love seeing him learn and grow!

i'm ready for the sickness to be gone!

it has been a horrible weekend!

aiden has been so sick - running a fever since saturday morning and i really wasn't able to get it down all that well.  we went to immediate care on sunday and they diagnosed him with strep (even though they didn't do a strep test) and put him on an antibiotic. sunday night aiden woke up with a fever of 105 (by ear) and when i gave him meds to help him feel better he threw them up and it was boiling hot! we left immediately for the ER - it was 10:50pm.

we didn't really wait all that long, which was nice - his rectal temp was 104.3 and they gave him tylenol - they did a strep test and chest x-ray - strep came back negative and there were some spots on his lungs - not quite pneumonia - but almost.  his fever was down to 101 and they gave him an antibiotic shot and a steroid and we had to wait to make sure he didn't have a reaction to the antibiotic.  we both fell asleep on the ER bed (most uncomfortable hospital bed in the world!) and then when they came back to check on us 30 min. later his fever was down to 99 (yay!) and no reaction to the meds - so we could go home and just had to follow up with our regular doctor in the morning... and we arrived home at 3:00am.

8:00am  - he wakes up! and is screaming and doesn't want to calm down.... i honestly do not remember what calmed him down - but i do remember that eventually he drinks his milk and watches some cartoons (all on my lap) and eventually falls back asleep - until i screw it up and try to lay down which pisses him off.....

we go to the doctor's office at 11am - eh, nothing much to write home about - continue the meds - blah blah blah

home by 12:30pm to nap... which only lasts 1 hour

UGH!!!

i really hope he sleeps well tonight - although we have to be back at the doctor at 8am tomorrow for Hep A shot

i need to go to sleep...

2 year molars SUCK

well aiden's 2 year molars have been coming in - this explains A LOT! they are messing with his sleep, basically his waking up. he used to wake up and be happy and would play in his crib.  now he wakes up screaming and crying - i will be happy when they are done!

aiden will be 2 years old in 2 weeks! the in-laws are coming in the weekend before he turns 2 for a family party - nothing big.  we're keeping it low key this year. but we will be doing cupcakes and stuff at school on the day he turns 2.

we've got about 24 weeks (which equals 168 days) even though we don't have a set come home date yet - it's nice to have some sort of countdown going.  every day when aiden wakes up and i'm changing his diaper he says "daddy" and i just say "he's at work" that really does seem to appease him for right now.

adam's schedule has changed - he is working 12 noon - 12 midnight.  so now we talk about 4pm (our time) when he gets home.... he goes into work while i'm sleeping - so now we only get to talk face-to-face one time a day - but we do usually text/email at some point during the day too - which is nice.

it's bedtime for me! i'm really trying to get to bed earlier (tonight is a fail) so i can get up earlier so that i don't have to be at work so late... although tomorrow i have an eye doctor appt in the morning so i have to wait for that.  looking forward to getting back into some contacts!

second half

well - adam is about to begin his 14 hour flight - and we are beginning the second half of this adventure - it's all downhill from here... it was very hard to leave him at the airport this afternoon.

aiden was on the potty tonight and he was done (he hadn't done anything) and he pointed down and said "shake" and he shakes it like we showed him to - and I said "Yay - lets go get our pj's on now" and he says "no. shake." and does it again - and again - and then he goes "shake, shake, shake"

Escape artist

We officially have an escape artist on our hands - well, at least from the pack-n-play. This morning Adam and I were laying in bed listening to Aiden move around and the next thing we heard is a loud thump - we looked at each other and new it wasn't a toy being thrown out. Adam went in his room and there he stood - on the ground.

And at nap time today - Adam and I both caught him at different times with one leg over - trying to escape - followed by a "lay down" where Aiden quickly lays down to pretend to sleep - until he eventually does.

Curious to find out if this behavior is going to continue when we get home and get back in his crib. I guess we will find out - we head back tomorrow!

P.S. yes I still have to update on Adam's return home - that will have to wait until I get home next week.

Crazy Boy

I think Aiden has a foot fetish! He loves for me to hold onto his feet! When I'm rocking him before bed - when I'm giving him a breathing treatment - when we are just chillin' on the couch. He hates wearing shoes - he hates wearing socks - but he wants me to hold his feet - so weird!!

Ears

Well Aiden has to have surgery again - he is going to get his second set of tubes (one has already come out - the other they are just going to replace) and they are going to take out his adenoids. I'm really hoping that this will really help all his sickness! I asked if we could hold off on the surgery until Adam comes home and that was no problem - so he will go in for surgery on January 18th.
