ramblings of a toddler

ahh - there isn't really all that much to talk about. mom and dad are so silly... they keep talking about all sorts of nonsense and they say that there will be news soon - whatever that means. i'll make sure to update y'all as soon as i know anything!

we have some friends coming to visit this weekend. i have never met these "friends" but that is what mom and dad call them.  the barkers are coming from tennessee and they are bring their 2 kids with them. i'm not exactly sure what i feel about this.  it might be fun to have some other kids to play with.

oh - and get this.... i no longer have a rocker in my bedroom. mom and dad say that i am a big boy and don't need it.  they SOLD it to someone else! so i have now traded my nightly rocking with nightly sword fights with daddy!!

and I love to eat it! It is so yummy!!

I got sent to timeout because I was eating dirt. :(

Mommy told me tonight while rocking me that I shouldn't eat dirt. I told her that I like to eat dirt!!

Hello World!

Hey everyone! This is Aiden. I've decided since my mommy doesn't always keep up with my blog that I'm going to take it over. Hey, I'm 3 now - I'm a big kid!

So let's go back to Easter (since mom didn't post anything here about that) I came out that morning and found all sorts of good stuff on the couch. I had this basket filled with CANDY!!!

 Then it was time for me to find all my eggs... that Easter Bunny was very sneaky - but I found them all!! I had real eggs and fake eggs with jelly beans inside!!

All in all I had a pretty good Easter with my mom and dad

And don't worry peeps - I'll be sure to write more!!

life

i probably really need to combine both of my blogs.... or just stick to one... i don't know. i have been really focused on my health journey lately that i've been posting there a little more recently.  plus, there really hasn't been much going on in our lives recently.

this past weekend I was supposed to run the Berry College 5k - it got cancelled. We had some HELLA rain that day - it kept getting pushed back because of thunder/lighting until they just decided to cancel it completely.  i was super excited to get back into running - the last 5k i did was this same race - 4 years ago! oh well... aiden was pretty disappointed - i guess he was excited to see me run. he'll get another chance this weekend - i'm doing Color Me Rad in chattanooga - my team is from work "Live in Color" it isn't a timed race, which is okay. it should be a LOT of fun! since it is easter weekend, we are wearing white with various color shorts and bunny ears/tails!! :)

aiden has an egg hunt at school tomorrow. i HAVE to remember his easter basket! i HAVE to remember his easter basket! I HAVE TO REMEMBER HIS EASTER BASKET! (yes, last year i was that mom that didn't bring her child's easter basket...) 

other than that.... there really isn't anything going on in our little life... aiden goes to school - adam and i work - i go to the gym - we have as much family time as we can...

it's not perfect - but it's our life - and i love it!

We had some other activities that didn't go quite as planned - but it's all good. We had a treasure hunt with our hook hands and a hook ring toss - the kids just wanted to play with the hooks :) We had a lot of fun. It was a little chilly when the wind blew - but not too horrible and the kids wanted to be outside the whole time! I think it went well.  Aiden was exhausted afterwards :)

back to school/work

today both aiden and i went back to school and work... it was tough dropping aiden off after him being off all last week. he wanted to go to school - but didn't at the same time.  

i went to work - and tried to make a dent in all that piled up while i was gone...

being off with aiden last week REALLY made me want to be a stay at home mom with him even more... ugh! if only... 

aiden will be 3 on wednesday - i can't believe he is so old! we are having his birthday party this saturday - it's pirate themed!

i'm very excited for this - aiden is finally understanding all this birthday stuff! it should be a fun time!

Flu Bug

Oh - Em - Gee

Aiden has had a fever since Saturday! I took him to the doctor on Monday and she said that it was only a virus. Which I totally agreed with... this child wasn't acting sick at all - because of that I actually thought that he was having an issue with his ears. She also said that he is definitely on the onset of asthma and we now have a daily preventative breathing treatment to do twice a day.  Dr. said that it usually helps to re-shape the lungs so that he'll grow out of the asthma.  Tuesday his fever was non-existent  (99) so I thought - Yes! We'll both be back to school/work tomorrow... NOPE! He wakes up on Wednesday morning with a fever of about 102 or 104 (depending on which ear you check) Back to the doctor we go... She wants to do a chest
X-Ray to make sure he doesn't have pneumonia. I ask about flu - she doesn't think it's flu, but will check that too since I am asking.

Off to the hospital we go... First we do the chest X-Ray and he does awesome! They put him some sort of contraption to strap him in and keep him from moving... those pictures came back clear - no pneumonia!

Next were off to get his nose swabbed to check for flu... I have to sit him in my lap - hold his hands and hold his head back.  NOT FUN AT ALL! We get done with that and he says "I don't want that thing up my nose anymore."

Off we go to Chick-fil-a for lunch and a milkshake....

We go home and take a nap.... and meanwhile get a call from the doctors office - we are positive for Flu A. How crazy is this child.... he has the flu and he is acting his normal self - maybe even a little more crazy - but that may be the fact that he's been stuck at home with mommy for this week.  

I really need to figure out something for us to do tomorrow!

Hopefully this flu bug will be gone this weekend... I can't afford to miss any more work...

road trip

we took a little road trip to SC this weekend.... aiden did GREAT! he's doing so much better in the car.  he got a little bit fussy the last 30 minutes to an hour.  we talked, sang songs, ate, and played on his LeapPad.  he was very happy to be visiting his grammy and poppy.

adam and i were able to have some nice "Us Time" while aiden hung out with his grandparents.

nothing much else going on here - at least worthy to write about... i need to start getting things ready for aiden's 3rd birthday! (i can't believe he's going to be 3!!!) we are having a pirate party - argh matey!

Randoms

When it comes to mornings - Aiden is definitely MY CHILD.  He detests the mornings and it is so hard to get him dressed and moving. Sometimes we can find something to help things along - the other day Adam asked Aiden if he wanted to take a shower and he literally JUMPED out of bed! He loves showering with daddy.   This is the reason I can't ever get to work before 8am - I'm lucky I have such a flexible schedule.

We've been taking family walks..... well Adam and I walk, and Aiden drives his truck... He's a pretty good driver for a 2 year old! He has learned to stop at the stop signs and looks both ways and he pulls over when other REAL cars come down the road.

This past weekend we took Aiden to a Hibachi restaurant - we thought he would love it - we were wrong.  He was scared of the fire... (I guess I can't blame him... he got a little too close the the small flame in the pumpkin this past year - and it stuck). Here he is sitting in Daddy's lap and covering his eyes waiting for the onion volcano to be done - he kept peeking... it was pretty cute. 

 He LOVED the clear soup - which really surprised both me and Adam - I have never seen Aiden eat soup. He ate some of the rice and some chicken... all-in-all - not the BEST restaurant experience for Aiden. oh well.  

ugh - sorry

I know - I have been horrible updating this thing... I've had SO MUCH that I want to write about - and then it all just keeps piling up and I keep putting it off and it piles up some more... so I guess I just need to forget about the past and start again - anew!

Work just has me so busy and stressed that I come home from work and I spend my time with Aiden and once he's in bed all I want to do is sit on the couch with my hubby and veg....

My goal for 2013 is to be better at keeping this up to date!

fun in the sun

so aiden and i spent the day up the mountain with the in-laws. they are finishing up packing up... there is a contract on the house! i can't believe that there is a good chance that the pool/hot tub are going to be gone soon!

the sun really did a number on all of us! aiden took a great nap and then when we got home - we got ready for bed and read a few books and then he got right into bed.. he didn't want to be rocked at all! my little man was tired!  i'm exhausted too - i really need to get into bed myself! (instead - i'm watching the harry potter marathon on ABC Family)

Aiden's 1st movie with Mommy!

i took aiden to his first movie with me today (he's already gone to the movies with his grammy)

we went to see Brave - so cute! and he did really good! he was standing and looking around until the movie started and then he sat on my lap - and there he stayed for most of the movie. he did eventually stand up and watched between 2 chairs.  he really didn't take his eyes off the screen.  he drank his fruit punch and ate some M&M's - wanted nothing to do with the popcorn - so i ate that :)

it was a nice outing with my little man! i just wish adam was home to enjoy it with us.... soon!!

Hate when I don't know what to do

Aiden is in bed crying.

I try to help calm and sooth him when I can - and he was calm when I put him to bed (a few quiet whimpers). He keeps crying and saying mommy - but I haven't gone in because it's calming down and more time is passing between the crying.

Why is he upset?
He wants M&M's and doesn't want to go to bed.

I give him M&M's when he uses the potty. He used the potty and I went to get his 4 M&M's and he got upset because he wanted to get them. (Mr. Independent!) I tried to give them to him and he wouldn't take them. I told him to take them or I was eating them. He didn't take them. I said lets get ready for bed and he refused to come out of the bathroom. I ate his M&M's - picked him up and carried him into the bedroom to get ready for bed. He cried - I got him dressed - he cried - I read him 2 stories - he started to calm down so I read him another story of his choosing. He said he wanted M&M and we talked about why he gets M&M's (for going potty - not for crying). We go to get his M&M's and he again refuses to take them from my hand. I put them away - take him back into the bedroom and calm him down and rock him and then put him to bed.

fears

i'm not exactly sure what is going on with aiden, but it seems that he is now scared of night time.  all i have to do is mention "night night" and he's all like "no night night" over and over.  and then we get to his room and he fights me putting on his pj's (where he used to help me) and we rock through his one song where he used to get down and climb into bed before the song was over - he now spends the time glancing up at the video monitor and looking worried.  when i tell him it's time to get in bed he shakes his  head no and refuses to get out of my arms. so we rock a little more.

tonight went a little smoother - i showed him what the video monitor was for and what it did.  he still glanced up at it a few times as we rocked, but i just kept explaining that it was for mommy to check on him when he was sleeping and he stayed calm.  and he went into bed much better - no crying!

so, i hope we have worked through this

Adventures in potty training

We moved Aiden over to pull-ups last week and he's been doing pretty good. We spent the morning naked and he did really well. He ran to the bathroom when he knew he needed to go and he even did #2 twice!

This afternoon wasn't as great. We weren't at home so he had on a Pull-up and shorts so he would just go in his Pull-up but he did go in his potty the 2 times I took him.

Maybe I'll have him potty trained by the time Adam comes home!

OT

so aiden is getting occupational therapy - his grip measured at 18 months and he also needs some help with sensory issues.  he has had 2 therapy sessions and it's going well. the first session last week I actually took him to and sat in on. they worked on digging small objects out play-doh and cutting with scissors and working with puzzles.

we haven't delved into the sensory issues yet, but he'll get it in the next couple weeks!

counting

my little boy can count to 10!!

well, he starts with 2 and skips 8 - but he's doing it! and i can't believe he is doing it. we were reading his book Five Little Ladybugs and at the end the last 2 pages have a bunch of ladybugs on it and he points at them and counts - his educator mommy is just boasting!!

Happy Easter

Well we colored Easter Eggs yesterday and Aiden LOVED it! He started off wanting to crack open the egg and I had to stop him.  He really liked putting the eggs into the cups and didn't have much patients for waiting to let the color get on the eggs.  It got pretty messy, so glad we did it outside! 

Careful

Aiden enjoyed hunting for his eggs this morning - he did really well - only needed a little bit of help!  I think the part he liked best though, was getting to eat candy for breakfast :)  he loved all his gifts from the Easter Bunny - all in all he had a good Easter!
